This is my blog, a creative outlet to mess around and play with as well as a place that logs my thoughts and inspirations.

Bonobo – The North Borders ›

This year, thanks to the new coffee house I work in part time, I’ve been listening to a lot of Bonobo’s music. I’d come across his music a few years ago, but for some reason never really listened much. Anyway, I’ve been enjoying it so much I thought it only right to share a link to his fifth studio album The North Borders. If you like melodic, layered, electronic music give it a listen.

The Martian Soundtrack ›

I’m a fan of the book, really enjoyed the film and the soundtrack is pretty darn awesome as well. I’ve spent the evening working with it in the background and it completely sucked me into my work. It’s been a long time since I found a soundtrack that did that.

How to properly use “Likes” in Apple Music ›

First, let me tell you one of my big problems, or sources of confusion, with likes on streaming services. Let’s say I’m listening to a Metal station and a great song comes on, but I consider it to be Rock. Do I like it? I enjoy the song, but I’m afraid if I like it, more Rock songs will come on the Metal station, diluting it.

If, like me, you’ve been trying to suss out what the heart does in the new Apple Music, this piece from Jim Dalrymple might just help. Although I still can’t suss why the heart doesn’t change state when a new song comes on when listening to Beats1.

The Week in Links

This weeks edition of The Week in Links covers a rande of topics. There’s the usual dose of Apple things, some thoughts from Shawn Blanc on focus and creativity, an obituary to one of the greatest type designers of all time, a moving video from Israel and a moving story from the Welsh valleys.

With the edition also falling on Father’s Day it would be remiss not to mention my Dad. So just a quick note to him to say thanks for being my Dad, you support me, you help me and you guide me and as well as being my Dad you’re also a great friend. Have a beer on me tonight!

Reanimation by Lights & Motion

I don’t post about the music I listen to very often, in fact never would be closer to the mark, but I’ve recently thanks to the wonders of Rdio discovered this album. It’s a largely instrumental piece which suits me while I’m working. This weekend a friend of mine pointed out that it bares some similarities to Coldplay with out the words, probably explains why it’s been on my stereo constantly for the last few days then.

Apple’s iTunes in iCloud ‘won’t launch in the UK this year’ by the Telegraph ›

Just what I feared, the UK once again dragging feet and scared of the Technology. The one thing I don’t understand is this quote:

Mark Mulligan, vice president and research director at Forrester Research, said: “Apple’s cloud music service will not launch in the UK until at least quarter one of 2012. These types of negotiations take a long time… For one thing the UK arms of all the major record labels are biding their time and waiting to see how the service affects download sales in the US before they sign up to anything.”

I’ll be more likely to buy from iTunes for ease of access than I ever have been, but of course, the record labels believe everyone is a thief and will always download illegally if it means paying $25 a year to get those files included in the available anywhere access.
